Charlie Rubin and Kool & The Gang

Over the last 17 years, Charlie Rubin has committed himself to improving the lives of thousands of children in the City of Newark by volunteering as a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark’s Board of Directors. A native of Newark, Charlie has served the club as President for two terms and has spearheaded the club’s fundraising efforts. As chair of both the “Evening of the Stars Gala” committee and Golf Outing committee, Charlie has been instrumental in raising significant dollars in support of club programs and services.
“Charlie is one of the greatest gifts a non-profit could ask for, a committed working board member who takes the time to visit the Clubs and gets to know the kids” say staff. However, his commitment to Boys & Girls Clubs does not stop there. Charlie also uses his time and talent to initiate some of the Movement’s most innovative programs. In 1993, he headed the committee that negotiated the state-wide agreement with Coca-Cola NY, which has resulted in more than $500,000 in revenue for local clubs. In addition, Charlie provides leadership to the New Jersey Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs, a separate 501(c)4 organization that is responsible for overseeing our lobbying efforts. To date the Alliance has received more than 2 million from the State for delinquency prevention programs. He is a member of the State Director’s Advisory Council and continually provides valuable input for on day to day operations.
When he is not working on behalf of the club, Charlie oversees the operation of the Amelior Foundation in Morristown. In what free time he has left, he enjoys golfing and watching his favorite sport, hockey. We are fortunate to have benefited from his commitment to Boys & Girls Clubs.
