Redenia Gilliam-Mosee
Redenia Gilliam-Mosee, Director of Government and Community Relations for Park Place Entertainment was named New Jersey Board Volunteer of the Year at the recent Annual Board Conference at the Woodbridge Hilton. Redenia, has Senior Vice President status for all corporate giving and community support for four major casinos in Atlantic City. Her office is responsible for the management of all community support systems for Bally's Casino Hotel, The Clairidge Hotel and Casino, the Hilton Hotel and Casino, and Caesar's Casino Hotel.
She has served as the President of the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City for eighteen years, completing her final year as President on December 2001.
Under Redenia's leadership, her employer designated it's contribution to the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority to provide the necessary funds to build a new $3 million Boys & Girls Club facility which opened in January 2000.
The year 2001 was especially productive and rewarding for Redenia. To follow up on her efforts to provide a state-of-the-art facility on Pennsylvania Avenue, she worked diligently with her superiors and officials of the CRDA to provide an additional $500,000 to purchase the property currently being leased, the Martin Wilson Art Center, which houses the Chelsea Unit of the Boys & Girls Club on Sovereign Avenue in the Chelsea section of Atlantic City. The closing on that facility took place in November 2001 and an additional $150,000 was provided to perform facility repairs and improvements to continue operations in the Chelsea building until funds can be raised to build a $5 million facility. Completion of the Chelsea building project will provide two modern facilities to the youth of Atlantic City.
In addition to obtaining capital support for the organization, Redenia helped to provide operating funds as well. She serves as President of the Board of the Children's Celebrity Classic Golf Tournament. Through Redenia's leadership, this tournament attracted several well known celebrities from the entertainment business as well as many retired professional athletes. The tournament was conducted at the Atlantic City Country Club and produced $120,000 in operating income for the Boys & Girls Club. Redenia also was influential in obtaining a second gift from retired Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Ron Jaworskie, in the amount of $20,000.
Redenia, wishing to retire as President of the Club after 18 years of service, and also committed to developing new board leadership, was faced with the challenge of replacing retiring executive director, Jane Flipping with a qualified professional. She successfully met this challenge with the appointment of former Regional Service Director, Dave Messier, as the Club's new Executive Director in October, 2001. She also presided over the Board's successful efforts to elect a new President and two new Vice Presidents in the implementation of the Club's first Board leadership succession plan and Board development plan.
After so many years, 2001 has been one of Redenia's most successful and truly places her without peers in terms of organization impact. She is clearly Atlantic City's most outstanding Board Volunteer and was recently selected as the most outstanding volunteer in New Jersey at the Annual Board Conference in March.
Redenia's leadership has not been limited to Atlantic City. She also serves on the Board of the New Jersey Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs and works hard to oversee our legislative activities.
